Attachment at *insert big 4 name* wasnt exactly a great start as i have expected. Firstly, I fully expected to be posted to auditing. But tmd, they posted me to the tax department. I was totally sianz half. To top it off, we have this absolutely boring auditing lecture for all the interns.
I reported to the tax department on the second day where the tax interns attended a lecture by the tax partner of the firm. Kinda surprising coz she is some big shot, yet do this kind of dirty work. But accordingly to her, teaching has always been her passion and thus, she decided to volunteer to give us this tax lecture. Apparently, she has 5 kids and told us that no woman should ever give up her career for family, and that she is a perfect example. Whatever it is, kinda glad that she gave this lecture coz she's very enthusiatic about tax. Guess some of her enthusiam managed to rub off onto me. I then decided to completemy attachment with a more positive attitude. Afterall, i know most of the interns posted to the tax department.
Learned more about my job and i must agree the learning slope is indeed steep. U get to grasp things fast and soon, you can do most of the tax computations with a breeze. It's kinda interesting I guess. Work is simple once u get the hang of it. In addition, there is no OT, unlike audit where u have to OT for most of the times. Most importantly, u dun have to deal with difficult clients. The audit interns told me that they were treated like dirt at their client's place just coz they are auditors. Even the frontline people dun smile at u.
Work has been rather fun i feel, maybe coz my friends are there and there have been much laughter. However, i do feel that the people there are not that friendly. They ordered tons of food the other day yet they didnt offer us any single piece. Whatever it is, I guess I'm stuck at *insert big 4's name* But i learned something from this first week of attachment. Attitude is definitely very important. With a optimistic and happy outlook, you would be able to handle work easier and happier. Lol... I learned also that my hour is actually worth $60!! Whoo!!
Despite the easy time in the tax department, I would still want to try for audit upon graduation. I just feel like accounting is not complete without going through the auditing phase..
